Over 3.000 spectators at the second edition of the Romanian Film Festival in Washington

More than 3.000 spectators participated in the second edition of the Romanian Film Festival titled "Reinventing Realism - New Cinema from Romania", held from June 1-16, 2019, in Washington, D.C. Organized by the Embassy of Romania to the U.S., in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York and the prestigious National Gallery of Art, the Romanian Film Festival in the American capital has become one of the largest events promoting national cinematography in North America.

The festival was opened on June 1, 2019 in the presence of director Daniel Sandu, actor Ştefan Iancu, actress Mihaela Sirbu, film critic Mihai Fulger, vice president ICR Krizbai Béla Dan, ICR New York director Dorian Branea and ambassador George Cristian Maior.

The festival began with the screening of "Alice T.", directed by Radu Muntean, winner of the best actress award (Andra Guți) at the Locarno International Film Festival. After the show, actress Mihaela Sîrbu and movie critic Mihai Fulger attended a Q&A session with the public, moderated by Margaret Parsons, film curator at the National Gallery of Art.

Other special guests during the festival included director Daniel Sandu and actor Ştefan Iancu ("One Step After Seraphim"), director Stere Gulea, actor Horaţiu Mălăele and producer Tudor Giurgiu ("Moromete Family: On the Edge of Time") and the lead actor Şerban Pavlu from "Charleston", directed by Andrei Creţulescu). The screenings were followed by dialogues with the audience, attended by the festival's guests.

The Romanian Film Festival in Washington, at its second edition, has already become the most important event of presenting quality Romanian films on the North American continent, becoming a landmark for the public. I thank all those who have contributed to the success of this festival, especially to the guests, and we are already thinking about the next edition", said George Cristian Maior, Ambassador of Romania to the U.S.

Among the films that could be seen at the festival were "Infinite Football", directed by Cristian Porumboiu; "Mariţa", directed by Cristi Iftime and "Pororoca" directed by Constantin Popescu. The films were featured at the National Gallery of Art.
