Cultural Relations

The cultural and scientific relations and those in the field of education between Romania and the U.S. are part of the Bilateral Strategic Partnership and are pursued in accordance with the following governmental accords: the Agreement between the Governments of the Socialist Republic of Romania and the U.S. regarding the cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology (signed in Bucharest on December 13, 1974); the Agreement between the Governments of Romanian and the U.S. regarding the establishment of an office of exchanges in the fields of education and science (signed in Bucharest on July 30, 1992), and the Agreement between Governments of Romania and the U.S. on education and scientific exchanges managed by the Fulbright Romanian-American Commission. 
 

The cooperation in the field of education 

The Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports encourages the participation of American teachers to participate in various academic programs in Romania. Likewise, the ministry supports the activities conducted by the American teachers selected by the Fulbright Commission and by the Civic Education Project in Romanian universities. 
The Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports, through the Department for International Affairs, maintains a permanent dialog with American citizens of Romanian origins in the U.S. meant to strengthen their relations with the country by granting graduate and post-graduate scholarships within the Romanian universities.  
 

Research 

The areas of interest in research are: IT and telecommunication, chemical process technology, physics of high energy, agriculture, environment and natural resources, bio-technology, health and pharmaceuticals, hydrologic resources, nautical science and technology, space research, arctic research, socio-economic research.
